Turtle Woman Interrupted started as a black and white doodle. She is symbolic of myself and all other voracious readers who may use their books as a sort of protective shell we can comfortably crawl back into to escape the stresses of day to day life. She is at the beach because I know of no better place to relax and read a good book. Whoever has interrupted her and caused her to look up from her book may be the person who left the book on the beach for her to find, or it may be someone hoping she will finish soon so they can have a turn, or it may be someone else entirely...
Turtle Woman Interrupted
by Jennifer Long (de Herrera)
Animal women have been apearing in my art for several years now. Mexico's magical realism and amazing alabrijes have no doubt contributed to their inspiration. For a long time most were bird women, they have recently started branching out more into other species.
